Duties Answers phone calls from citizens, assists customers at front desk with incoming and outgoing animals, pet adoptions, issues animal license, cares for sheltered animals and maintains shelter records. Rotates Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturdays. This position has no supervisory responsibilities and requires minimal supervision. Assists visitors to the shelter with lost and impounded pets, quarantined animals, pet adoptions, pet licenses, relinquished pets, and offers information about pet responsibility, city ordinances and state laws. Enters data concerning animals housed at the shelter, pet owner information, pet license information, spay/neuter information, and other information related to monthly reports and state mandated records for animal shelters. Assists with filing of documents. Regularly checks lost and found information to match lost animals with those in the shelter. Communicates and organizes pet transfers to other agencies, breed rescue groups and veterinarians. Tracks status of Action Line complaints and coordinates with dispatcher to ensure that complaints are handled and reported back to the Mayor's Action Line office. Keep the reception area organized, neat and clean. Assist with daily inventory of animals. Prepares citations and case information for monthly court dockets. Prepares renewal notices for pet licenses. Advises supervisor of situations that are unusual, complicated, require police back-up or extremely irate citizens. Assists Animal Care Technicians to prepare paperwork and organize the transport of animals to be spayed or neutered. Assists with preparing the shelter for visitors on Saturday mornings by cleaning the lobby and restrooms. Perform other duties as needed. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses
Qualifications: High School diploma or GED; two years experience with office machines such as computers, copiers, fax machines, ten key, typewriter. Two years with customer service and data entry. Valid Texas Driver's license. Experience working with and handling animals. Ability to identify dog and cat breeds and various types of wildlife, including birds. PREFFERED: Bilingual (English/Spanish) desired. Experience and good record of working with the public.
