The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Health Safety and Environmental Compliance Coordinator to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Utilities Department.
The HSE Compliance Coordinator earns a competitive salary of $54,529 - $69,524/year based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS THE HSE COMPLIANCE COORDINATOR
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.
- Recommend and implement process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance; Ensure findings are reported to Risk Management
- Partner with City-wide Risk Manager to Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
- Partner with Risk Management to report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, and environmental testing.
- Review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy.
- Monitor water and wastewater sampling schedules for compliance with applicable regulations and permit requirements.
- Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment. This includes safety training for new hire orientation, ongoing re-training, and compliance training.
- Maintain liaisons with outside organizations such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, rescue teams, regulatory representatives, and compliance auditors/inspectors as needed to perform role.
- Develop, review, revise, and implement Department programs and policies.
- Develop, and manage an annual budget for safety and compliance initiatives including training materials, tools, etc.
- Create and lead steering committees, when necessary, to promote continuous improvement with focus on Leading Indicators.
- Develop and present recurring reports on Health and Safety metrics.
Additional Duties:
- Coordinate with City of Pearland Risk and Safety Coordinator on safety programs
- Serves as Department Safety Officer for Utilities in addition to serving on the Safety Committee and Accident Review Board.
- Stays up to date on safety, health, and risk best practices, regulations, and trends.
- Recognizes and reduces liability; trains and educates employees on safety.
- Provides communication to department leadership on matters regarding safety and risk as it may pertain to them.
- Performs related work as assigned.
