As a Planner I/II for the City, you will be in an entry level and/or mid-level professional position requiring a high level of detail and technical expertise for the review, interpretation, and implementation of local codes, ordinances, and plans to facilitate efficient growth of the community.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Effectively interprets and applies state, county, and local codes, ordinances, and regulations related to development.
- Effectively and efficiently reviews a higher quantity and more complicated zoning, subdivision, site development, and public infrastructure plans for completeness and compliance with the Comprehensive Plan, Unified Development Code, city ordinances, and the Local Government Code. Ensure comprehensive review and all timelines are maintained.
- Assists the Planner I position during reviews and offers effective peer review of work.
- Effectively utilizes permit tracking software in accordance with department requirements.
- Effectively dissects complicated information and delivers in a clear and concise manner for peers and the public to understand. Practices complete communication through active listening and establishes empathy to concerns.
- Prepares and delivers professional staff reports and public presentations to the Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning Commission, and assists with City Council preparation. Assist with preparing for all public meetings as needed.
- Facilitates and actively attends pre-application conferences including preparation, notes, and follow up as needed.
- Assists with the implementation of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, as needed.
- Coordinates with external agencies, including but not limited to CAMPO, CAPCOG, and Travis County, as needed.
- Assist with Code Compliance, Building, and Parks Department cases and implementation of ordinances, as needed.
- Assists with demographic data for long term planning projects, as needed.
- Works on special projects as assigned.
- Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:
Planner I
- Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning and/or related field.
- Valid Class C Texas driver's license.
- Internship with a local government in planning is preferred.
Planner II
- A Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning or similar field from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum of three (3) years of professional planning experience with a local government. A master's degree in Planning may substitute one (1) year of experience.
- Valid Class C Texas driver's license.

- Retirement eligibility requires 5 years of service at age 60 or 20 years of service at any age.
- Employees also have an additional retirement fund option to participate in a 457 plan.
- Long-Term Disability is employer-paid and covers 60% of the employee's salary up to $7,500.
- Military leave provides up to 15 days of paid leave per fiscal year for eligible employees.
- Education reimbursement assistance up to $2,000 per fiscal year.
- Employer-paid basic term life insurance policy two (2) times an employee's base salary, up to $325,000 maximum.
- 40 paid service hours are available to volunteer within our community.
- Up to 160 hours of paid parental leave to eligible employees following the birth of an employee's child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption, foster care, or other legal placement to care for and bond with the child.
