This is a VOLUNTEER position in the City's Summer Recreation Camp Program, assisting a Camp Counselor in planning and implementing recreation activities for a group of children. Counselors In Training assist in planning activities such as games, sports, arts and crafts, special events, etc. Volunteers in this classification are taught the basics of becoming a counselor, i.e. group organization, supervision and recreational activities, basic first aid, safety measures, etc. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Summer Recreation Program Supervisor.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assist camp counselors in the daily recreation activities of a group of approximately 26 children. Assist in the planning and implementation of assigned special events and sporting activities. Monitor and provide encouragement for a safe camp atmosphere. Participate in all camp activities, special events, 4th of July program and assist in arts and crafts projects. Assist in the performance of routine janitorial duties. Performs related work as required and as directed.
