What are the responsibilities and job description for the Firefighter position at CITY OF PLEASANTON?
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- The Geography of the City of Pleasanton and surrounding areas. This includes the street system, and hydrant locations.
- Specialized firefighting equipment and vehicles.
- Current strategies for all types of fire such as wildland, commercial, residential, airport, flammable and combustible liquids, vehicles etc.
- Have working knowledge of International fire Code.
- Computers and related software.
- Complete the NIMS ICS series 100, 200, 700 and 800.
- Ability to make determinations as to best course of action for fighting fires or responding to other related emergency situations.
- Ability to work in stressful situations.
- This position is required to remain available twenty-four hours a day.
- Work within the command structure and work in a team environment.
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Ability to carry a minimum of 50 pounds under working conditions.
- Must be able to work and take directions from others.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Have good vision and manual dexterity.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
- Ability to gain physical strength and agility sufficient to perform prolonged and hazardous work under adverse conditions.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds under adverse working conditions.
- Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds and to make forceful arrests when necessary
- Must be able to climb ladders, clear fences, and other obstacles.
- Demands mental and emotional stability in very high stress conditions.
- This position is required to remain available twenty-four hours a day.
- Subjected to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, and working in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time.
- Working conditions may be inside or outside with exposure to inclement weather; environmental hazards; excessive noise; animals, snakes, and poisonous insects.
- Required to comply with personal protective equipment requirements.
- Operates a city vehicle daily.
