About this position: Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) Environmental Education program offers nature programs in our City's parks and natural areas to connect Portlanders to nature all year long. Programs include youth employment programs, internships, summer nature camps, youth classes, school trips, guided nature walks, volunteer stewardship, and special events that focus on connection to nature.

As a Botanic Specialist II- Environmental Education you will:
Plan, organize, coordinate, lead, and evaluate outdoor nature education programs year-round.
Keep program participants safe by implementing safety and risk management guidelines.
Build a workplace culture that prioritizes racial equity.
Create a welcoming workplace for people of all races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
Build ties to diverse community-based organizations and other partners to increase access to nature for Portlanders of all ages and backgrounds.
Recruit, train, evaluate and lead the daily work of youth and adult seasonal staff and volunteers; could lead approximately 50 staff members at any one time.
- Lead youth activities with a focus on environmental stewardship, ecology, and restoration practices.
- Make presentations to large and small groups about environmental stewardship, natural areas management and associated career opportunities.
- Monitor program budget and buy supplies.

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement
As of October 18, 2021, all City employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. This is required for all positions at the City of Portland. Work Location
Currently, many positions with the City of Portland are being performed as a remote/onsite mix. In the future, these positions: 1) may remain as a remote/onsite mix or 2) revert to full-time at a city work location.

- Ability to apply outdoor education techniques including planning and leading activities with a focus on environmental stewardship, ecology, and/or restoration practices.
- Experience recruiting and/or supporting a team of adult and/or youth (ages 14-19) employees and/or volunteers, may include training, mentoring, and leading.
Knowledge of safe working methods and best practices for working outdoors.
Ability to take steps to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices.
Experience in building relationships with diverse groups or individuals, such as: co-workers, community groups, volunteers, organizations, the public and others.
Applicants must also possess:
Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 per City/State mandate or have an approved exception by date of hire.
A valid state driver's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment.
Ability to work outdoors in all types of environments, including paved and unpaved trails on uneven ground, and various outdoor weather and physical conditions.
Ability to acquire certification for First Aid and CPR within six (6) months
Although not required, the ability to speak a language other than English at a conversational level is preferred.
