Recreation Facility Specialists are responsible for assisting in the daily operations of community and/or neighborhood centers. No day is ever the same — candidates with strong written and oral communication skills who enjoy interacting with a variety of people daily will thrive in this role.
This position is responsible for daily opening and closing procedures, interacting with park guests, program registration, and preparation of daily programs and program facilitation such as classes, programs, events, and camps. Additionally, this position is responsible for cash register operation, balancing daily revenues, cleaning and maintaining facility spaces and grounds and event operations.
This position works a combination of night, weekend, and occasional city holiday shifts with flexibility required to provide facility coverage. Hours will vary based on rotations with full time staff and after-hours coverage as needed. Our department is hiring for this position at the Abbotts Creek Community Center.Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age to apply and have access to reliable transportation to commute to the facility or facilities served. This position will provide the training and support needed to be successful.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a customer service or recreation setting.

CPR/First Aid/AED/EPI certification, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Depending on the location worked, this position may require operating City vehicles and equipment to assist with facility events (site needs vary).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Retaining information about site amenities, fees, and upcoming programs and events to meet the needs of park patrons

Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff and the public, including rule enforcement, tactfully and courteously with a commitment to superior customer service. This positions works with all populations and includes both youth and adults

Strong communication skills for conveying information clearly to individuals and groups, and confidence in conflict resolution

Demonstrating consistent communication through multiple devices such as phones, computers, and radios with patrons, co-workers and supervisory staff

Organizing information with attention to detail, proofreading, and error correction Managing program registration in accordance with city policies and procedures Fluency in the English language for speaking, reading, and writing

Database software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software

Knowledge of or the ability to learn and utilize recreation management software (RecTrac) and Raleigh financial databases and systems, including Peoplesoft and NeoGov. Training will be provided by City of Raleigh in these programs.
ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions of this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. This position requires full use of arms and legs to operate equipment, climb stairs, and assist with emergencies. The candidate must have eyesight of at least 20/30 with or without correction and must be able to hear at least 40 decibels in an environment producing 500-4,000 hertz to operate equipment and assist with emergencies.
Medium Work:
This position requires the ability to lift at least 50 pounds independently.
Working Conditions:
This position involves independent physical movement and works in both indoor and outdoor settings in all types of weather. This role requires a significant amount of time in a guest facing environment.
