What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planning Intern position at City of Redlands?
Under direction, performs a variety of tasks within the Development Services Department. The Planning Intern assists with and completes administrative and technical assignments and research. Interns will receive mentoring and broad experience in a variety of areas within the field of planning and development services.
- Assist with checking plans submitted by developers and the public;
- Assist with reviewing applications for completeness and accuracy;
- Provides assistance with planning, zoning, and environmental studies;
- Assist with the preparation of reports and findings;
- Assist with the development and presentation of recommendations on development permits, special use permits, variances, tentative tract maps, residential planned development permits, and other zoning applications;
- Assist with updating zoning maps and the coordination of the General Plan;
- Coordinate planning activities with other City departments and with outside agencies;
- Assist staff with inspections for projects for compliance with approved Plans, Planning/Historic Conditions of Approval, and other City requirements and/or ordinances;
- Assists with special projects in support of the planning department; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college with major course work in Urban Planning or a related field.
- Current enrollment in upper division courses of a bachelor's degree program is desired.
Licenses and Certificates:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
- Ability to work in a standard office environment; ability to travel to different sites and locations;
- Regularly required to talk or hear. Required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
