Water Quality Cross Connection Specialist

Our Water Quality Cross Connection Specialist inspects industrial and commercial establishments to ensure compliance with permit requirements, ordinances and State and Federal regulations regarding backflow prevention, cross connections and water pollution to prevent potential hazards associated with water contamination and pollution.

This means if a violation has occurred, our Water Quality Cross Connection Specialist will try to resolve it first through diplomacy and education with property owners. However, your ability to connect with people and help them solve problems is balanced with your respect and understanding of the value and need for regulations and rules for safe, sustainable, and healthy communities and neighborhoods. This combination makes you skilled and motivated to work with people to find good solutions quickly. 

You are very familiar with the Uniform Plumbing Code and commercial/industrial plumbing design.  Your experience in plumbing and cross connection control principles and practices allows you to be able to read blueprints and identify potential cross connection's locations and where backflow devices should be installed. This experience also translates to your backflow prevention assembly inspection skills as well as repair techniques and procedures.

You have strong experience with collecting and maintaining data. In this role, you will use SwiftComply to enter test data and other information so having experience with a similar compliance management software for water utilities is a plus. This role also requires experience with Excel.If selected to join us as our new Water Quality Cross Connection Specialist, here are a few or your key responsibilities:

• Investigate industrial, commercial and residential on-site water systems for proper cross connection devices to ensure the city water supply is not contaminated and endangering public health. Inspects new construction work for compliance with cross-connection ordinances and engineering standards and follow up on deficiencies
• Bring high hazard facilities into compliance with City, State and Federal codes
• Notify customers of, and maintains records of backflow prevention device testing
• Enter test results into database; maintain database by entering all test reports, updating accounts and creating new accounts; track backflow assembly testers to insure accurate testing is done, accurate reports are completed, licenses are valid and testing equipment is calibrated annually
• Ensure that the City is in compliance with applicable local, state and federal cross connection regulations.
• Develop and presents training and public awareness programs on cross connection control and backflow prevention
• Explain, interprets and enforces the City Cross Connection Code and other codes, ordinances and guidelines related to cross connection control

• High School Diploma or equivalency with two (2) years' experience working for a public water system. 
• Or any satisfactory combination of experience and training that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge and skills. 

Minimum Required Licenses & Certifications

• Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets city standards and remain insurable by the City
• Cross Connection Control Specialist Certification
• Water Distribution Manager 1

• Top candidates will be contacted to participate in the next phase of selection process, which may include phone screens and/or an interview.
• Interviews are scheduled for April 5, 2023
