Job Posting for Museum Docent / Recreation Leader Part-Time at City of Redondo Beach

Are you looking for a fun, educational and creative part-time position? Do you love learning and talking about history? Do you like to lead and engage activities and programs for all ages in our community?  If so, the Redondo Beach Historical Museum Docent (Recreation Leader) position might be right for you!

The Redondo Beach Historical Museum is a program of the City of Redondo Beach’s Community Services Department/Cultural Arts Division, which also includes the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center and the Redondo Beach Public Art Program. The Museum focuses on the history of the City of Redondo Beach and features rotating temporary exhibitions. The Museum is housed in an historic Queen Anne-style home situated in the Heritage Court section of Dominguez Park alongside the Morrell House, another turn-of-the-20th-century historic home owned by the City and operated by the Redondo Beach Historical Society.

Under the supervision of the Cultural Arts Manager and in cooperation with the Redondo Beach Historical Commission, Docents are part-time City of Redondo Beach employees trained to provide educational services for museum visitors. Docents provide a welcoming environment, guide visitors through the museum and its programs, and help care for the collections. Docents are responsible for opening and closing the Museum, leading tours, responding to inquiries in person, by phone, and by computer (email) and scheduling and coordinating the work of volunteers. Docents must be able to commit to a minimum of three days/week; four hours/day. The specific schedule can be negotiated, but preference will be given to applicants who can work on both Saturday and Sunday. Depending upon the qualifications and desires of the incumbent(s), opportunities may exist for Docents to develop programming targeted to specific groups, such as 3rd grade students who are studying Redondo Beach history, special events and other programming for the Museum.

The City of Redondo Beach takes appropriate measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 at work and to safely operate the Museum.

This post is continuous and may close at any time without notice. Prompt application is encouraged.
