DEFINITION:  Assistant Summer Camp Director for Recreation Services

REPORTS TO:  Neighborhood Centers Specialist.

 HOURS:  Varies with weekend work as needed. Working hours are available based on camp enrollment per site and are subject to change as necessary.

The Assistant Camp Director position is for the City of Rocky Mount's Summer Camp program. Working hours (5-10 hours a week) start in May for Assistant Directors. Working hours increase to 30-45 hours per week during camp starting June 10 through August 9, 2024. 
  • Works with school age children (ages 5-12) in a recreational type setting
     participating in arts & crafts, sports, games, and recreational activities.
  • Maintains high quality, safe and fun environment for programs and activities.
  • Assists in supervision of counselors at site.
  • Assists in scheduling and implementation of programs and activities.
  • Handles all discipline problems adhering to proper discipline procedures as
     stated in training and approved by department.
  • Provides a constant flow of communication with supervisors, co-workers,
     parents/guardians and participants.
  • Performs light maintenance.
  • Assists other staff members and other tasks that are assigned.  
  • Completion of high school
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Organizational skills and attention to details
  • Previous experience in summer camp or childcare setting
  • Staff supervision experience preferred
  • General knowledge of recreational sports, parks, programs, and services
  • Good leadership skills
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
