Description
Under limited supervision, the Accountant performscomplexaccounting tasks for the Finance Department.
Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Examples of Duties
Performs complex accounting tasks such as maintaining and preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and accounting records for funds including General Fund, trust and agency funds, general capital project funds and economic development agreements.
Reconciles various general ledger accounts; prepares and enters various related journal entries; prepares year-end reports for audit.
Prepares regular and special reports for management, council, and outside agencies.
Prepares and maintains various account reconciliations including property tax, sales tax, miscellaneous receivables, and bank/outstanding check reconciliations.
Assists in maintaining internal accounting control systems.
Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and procedures and/or state and federal statutes.
Maintains relationships with City departments, regional governmental entities, and other nongovernmental entities in support of City projects and programs.
Assists with year-end audit; prepares end of the year reports.
Assists Accounting Supervisor and/or Manager with special projects.
Experience and Training
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field. Additional work experience may substitute for two years of education on a year-to-year basis.
Two (2) years Finance or Accounting experience required.
Knowledge of GAAP, accounting practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Certificates and Licenses Required
Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
