Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing skilled work operating light to heavy equipment used to excavate, load, transfer, or move dirt, gravel, or other material in the maintenance or construction of parks, streets, and other public properties. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff.

- Operates a 10 cy or less dump trucks to and from work locations, construction sites, etc.
- Performs minor maintenance and service checks on equipment.
- Performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor work related to various maintenance and construction activities.
- May prepare a daily log of activities.
- Cleans and removes debris from streets, parks, drainage, ditches, City parks, and other areas, frequently lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Removes brush and trash from drainage inlets.
- Transports tools and equipment to and from work sites.
- May assist in the placement of barricades, signs, flashers, and safety cones.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance:
- One (1) year of experience operating light, medium, or heavy equipment.
- Must obtain a Valid Texas Commercial Class "B" Driver's License plus all required endorsements within six (6) months of employment.
- High School Diploma or GED recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
- Ability to retrieve debris from waterways to include creeks, ponds and lakes within the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks to assist employees with the Waterways or Trades sections.
- Knowledge of the operation of small boats and outboard motors.
- One (1) year experience operating equipment such a skid loaders, backhoes, weed eaters, chainsaws, edgers and other small equipment.
- Familiar with a work order tracking system such as SAP/CRM computer software.

- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

- Working conditions are primarily outside in a construction site environment with frequent exposure to temperature extremes, traffic construction dust, damp/wet surfaces, overhead power lines, high noise, oily surfaces, liquid asphalt, and lime.
