The Sanitation Planning and Operations Support Manager is responsible for providing oversight and management to four (4) critical areas within the Sanitation Department. These areas include the route management system, health and safety program, emergency management, and asset management. Each of these key areas is vital to the success of daily operations within the department.
- Manages and administers Sanitation’s route management system.
- Identifies trends and assess opportunities to improve planning and execution of Sanitation routes.
- Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective actions, and implement follow up assessments.
- Plans, implements, manages, and maintains Sanitation’s health and safety program.
- Serves as Sanitation’s emergency management liaison.
- Manages and conducts activities associated with the key components of emergency management.
- Oversees the maintenance and utilization of Sanitation’s assets.
- Creates and lead training strategies and initiatives for staff.
- Prepares presentations and reports as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requires an Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, or Operations Management, with four (4) years of experience in route management systems, implementing, monitoring health and safety protocols, developing and executing emergency management plans, overseeing the maintenance and utilization of sanitation assets, or maintaining accurate records and providing regular reports on the department’s operations and performance; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minimum Standards
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Senior Sanitation Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include City of Savannah policies and procedures and department service codes. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related route management, emergency planning, safety, and asset management, and records and reporting duties.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to support the operations of the Sanitation Department and assist in the planning of department strategic initiatives and events.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city personnel, and members of the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, provide services, motivate personnel, and resolve problems.
