Operations and Monitoring Assistant Manager - Wastewater Department

The City of Solon has an opening for a full-time position of Operations and Monitoring Assistant Manager in the Water Reclamation (Wastewater) Department. This position will be utilized as on the job training to fill the role of Operations and Monitoring Manager. The selected candidate will supervise and coordinate activities of the Water Reclamation Department in the areas of Maintenance, Operations, Monitoring and the Collection System under the supervision of the Director and/or a Manager. Additionally, this position assists in administering the department’s Industrial Pretreatment Program ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and recommends and implements enforcement actions when required.

The Operations and Monitoring Assistant Manager will be responsible for planning and scheduling the activities of the Water Reclamation Operations division to achieve efficient, quality wastewater treatment services for the City and maintain compliance with the NPDES permit, state and federal regulations, assisting in the administration of the Industrial Surcharge program, and assisting in the management of the analysis of wastewater, biosolid and environmental samples to provide data for the efficient operation of the city’s Water Reclamation facility and to ensure compliance with permit and regulatory requirements.

Qualified applicants must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, public health, civil engineering or a closely related field from a four (4) year accredited college or university. A Wastewater Laboratory Analyst certification and experience in water reclamation facilities may be substituted for formal education. A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in water reclamation is required. Applicants must also have a Class II Wastewater Certification License issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the requirement to achieve a Class III Certification within 24 months, a Class I Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certification issued by the Ohio Water Environment Association, and State of Ohio driving privileges (required to drive a city vehicle as needed to perform job). A Commercial Driver’s License Class B is preferred.

This position will be a grade level 12 on the City’s pay scale with a salary range $63,133 - $75,759. City benefits include medical, prescription, dental, and vision.
