The City of Spokane's Aquatics Program seeks friendly and motivated team members looking for a fun way to serve the community!
Will serve as a lifeguard, primarily responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to all emergencies. Under close supervision of the Aquatics Facility Managers, assist in mentoring, training, and supporting lifeguards. Partakes in management meetings, staff trainings, testing pool chemicals and carrying out additional duties as assigned by supervisors. Ensures that lifeguarding certification is current and that all lifeguards are fully competent in performing water rescue procedures and coordinates in ensuring safety of patrons in and around the pools while monitoring swimmers and enforcing all safety rules.
Part-time up to 40 hours per week. Season typically runs June through August, with training beginning mid-May.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a lifeguard
- Primarily responsibility for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to all emergencies.
- Assist in mentoring, training, and supporting lifeguards.
- Attends and participates in management and, staff trainings.
- Conducts testing pool chemicals
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Must be at least 17 years of age at time of appointment
- Possess a valid government issued ID and Social Security Card
- Required to submit to background check and drug test
DESIRED SKILLS INCLUDE:
- Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures
- Demonstrates a desire to mentor and train fellow staff to achieve a high standard of professionalism and safety
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, and flexible enough to make accommodations for unforeseen events
- Have excellent communication skills, decision-making skills, and a confident ability to speak with the public and provide good customer service.
- Willingness to build effective and supportive working relationships with staff and pool patrons
- A background is aquatic programs such as swim lessons is encouraged
MUST possess current (through summer) certifications in American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding & First Aid; ARC CPR for the Pro Rescuer; ARC Blood Bourne Pathogens at time of season opening. ARC Waterpark certification is preferred
