The City of Sunnyside has an opening for the position of Evidence Technician at the Police Department. This position works under the direct supervision of the Police Chief. The evidence technician is a vital role in the Police Department as they are responsible for using computerized records and daily crime reports to evaluate evidence and maintain the central depository of criminal evidence. The primary role of the evidence technician is to intake, track and store evidence according to Washington state guidelines and parameters.
Essential Job Functions
- Receive evidence from officers as they deposit it.
- Receive records requests for body camera evidence and redacts and disperses those pieces of evidence.
- Provides Sunnyside Police Department and other law enforcement agencies with information on the status of cases.
- Maintains log of persons entering the evidence area.
- Maintains regular communications with management staff and personnel from Patrol and Investigations, which includes shift briefings.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two years experience in criminal analysis, criminal justice or social services.
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation to include a polygraph, psychological and pre-employment physical and drug screen.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
