The City of Tolleson is creating an eligibility list for the position of Lateral Firefighter.
Position Description
The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as Firefighter. Firefighters are responsible for providing fire suppression and emergency medical service along with fire prevention, hazardous materials response/mitigation, public education, and problem solving; Providing maintenance of the Fire Department equipment; Performing emergency medical services; Conducting fire suppression and related services; Participating in training; Providing community and customer service; and performing various administrative functions. Other duties include, but not limited to, maintaining strength and cardiovascular health via physical conditioning and exercise; Attending staff meetings; Interacting with citizens and other departments and agencies; Conducing hydrant test flow and inspection and service records; Performing life safety inspections; and, Maintaining proper records.
Note: The City of Tolleson is creating an eligibility list for the position of Lateral Firefighter. Candidates are required to complete the NTN exam and department application to be considered for the position. A lateral recruit firefighter is defined as a person currently working as a career, full-time paid professional firefighter. Candidates must possess or obtain a valid Arizona State I & II certification by challenging the Arizona Center for Fire Service Excellence Firefighter I & II exams and meet all the prerequisite job requirements of the City of Tolleson. To challenge the Arizona Center for Fire Service Excellence Firefighter I & II exams, applicants must provide a copy of a Firefighter I & II certification from another state, IFSAC, or Pro Board entity at the same level to be tested. The certification must meet NFPA 1001, 2008 edition or later, with an IFSAC or Pro Board seal. Lateral recruit firefighters who have not yet graduated from a Regional Metropolitan Phoenix Fire Service Training Academy will be required to attend a bridge fire training academy, lasting approximately six weeks.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED, two (2) years prior experience as a full-time sworn firefighter. Must possess certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), completion of Regional Academy Training within the last 5 years, and an Arizona driver's license. Certification as a Paramedic with the State of Arizona preferred. Applicants with out of state Paramedic certifications must have Arizona reciprocity prior to accepting an offer.

- Copy of a three (3) year driving history report from MVD;
- Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification
- Proof of Regional Academy Training within the last five (5) years and Proof of CPAT within last 6 months
- Arizona driver's license. Candidates that do not possess a valid Arizona driver's license must obtain one within one (1) month of the date of hire.
