What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Preschool Teacher position at City of Tukwila?
This is a part-time position assigned to the Tukwila Community Center. This position will work 180 days per year and 20-30 hours per week depending on the program needs.

Serves as lead teacher for the preschool program.
Prepares curriculum that enables preschool participants to learn and be ready for kindergarten.
Communicates preschool curriculum to students and teacher's assistant.
Communicates with children's parents, or guardians, about daily activities, behaviors, and related issues.
Observes and assesses learning in order to support student growth.
Prepares lesson plans.
Performs supply and equipment inventory.
Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the work week.
KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction;
- Knowledge of skills needed for children to be kindergarten ready;
- Knowledge of terminology, methods, materials, practices, and techniques in area of assignment;
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to parents and other staff;
- Knowledge of customer service techniques;
- Modern office equipment, practices, and procedures.
SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
- Planning, programming, and supervising educational activities for early learners;
- Applying customer service techniques;
- Establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels; and;
- Communicating effectively, both verbally and written, to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (Position requirements at entry):
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school; two years of experience working with preschool children in an early learning setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to perform the essential elements of the job.
Valid Driver's License
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or similar field.
Bi-lingual is a plus
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, crawling, mobility, feeling, fingering, grasping, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount to force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting, most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. Some positions may require greater periods of walking and/or standing.
