This position performs electrical installation inspections of new and existing construction for compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and statutes.
Starting salary: Depending on qualifications $29.8166 - $40.2521 per hour

- Inspects new and existing commercial, industrial, and residential structures for electrical installation compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and statutes.
- Makes service inspections to verify code compliance prior to the utility energizing the electrical service; prepares certificate of code compliance to the utility for service.
- Makes follow up inspections to verify compliance, as necessary.
- Issues "correction orders" for non-compliant electrical installations; monitors all correction orders and takes action as necessary for noncompliance, including referral to City Attorney's office.
- Maintains records of all permits and inspections.
- Responds to inquiries from architects, contractors and citizens regarding code interpretations and compliance; assists in plan review for conformance with codes before permits are issued.
- Makes special inspections as necessary for non-construction related electrical items such as flood, fire and storm damage.
- Maintains all job required certifications by participating in continuing education and keeping current with code changes.
- Makes recommendations to keep City municipal codes related to electrical installation and construction current and effective.
- Investigates manufactured electrical equipment and devices to verify the products used are in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, product standards and listings.
- Fills in as needed on UDC and commercial building inspections.
- Other duties as assigned.
Graduation from high school and at least 2 years of specialized training in electric and/or building trades, plus at least 4 - 6 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:
Knowledge of- Construction methods and techniques.
- Applicable electrical and building codes, ordinances and statutes.
- Modern inspection methods and procedures.
- Occupational hazards and safety methods and techniques used to avoid or minimize risks.
- The use of standard office equipment including computers and relevant software.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
- Understand and carry out instructions.
- Multitask and prioritize workload.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, supervisors, coworkers and the general public.
- Performing electrical inspections and identifying hazards and code violations.
- Oral and written communications.
- Required: Valid Wisconsin driver's license; Certifications: Commercial Electrical Inspector, UDC Electrical Inspector.
- Preferred: Certifications: Wisconsin Commercial Building Inspector, UDC Plumbing Inspector, UDC HVAC Inspector, UDC Construction Inspector.
