The Children’s Services Supervisor provides reference and reader's advisory service in person, over the telephone, or through email or other emerging technologies; supervises reference staff working at the children’s department information desk, assists with training, professional development, counseling, evaluation, and coaching of staff – when necessary; has collection development duties including children’s print and electronic collections for children’s services; participates in development, delivery, promotion, and evaluation of children’s programs; and assists in writing and implementing grants as assigned; participates in and attends Milwaukee County Federated Library System children’s committee meetings.

| Supervision and responsibility for the children’s department, including staff |
| Planning, presenting, and delegating all children’s programming—includes reading programs, outreach, hiring performers, obtaining incentives, and creating/presenting in house presentations emphasizing innovative ideas and current trends in children's services |
| Selection of children’s materials to purchase. |
| Monitoring children’s department spending and budget |
| Provide reference services—includes answering questions, helping patrons find books, computer help, research, reader’s advisory, interlibrary loan, and monitoring behavior |
| Organization and maintenance of the children’s collection and space |
| Prepares annual report and budget requests for the children’s department |
| Supervise all children’s department pages on the library website and social media – including updates |
| Marketing all children’s programs and services offered - paper and digital. |

Must possess a Master's degree in Library Information Science (MLIS)
2-3 years' experience (5 preferred) in professional librarianship with a minimum of 2 years in children's services
Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
