JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK:

This position helps with general parks operations and performs a full range of duties relating to the Parks and Recreation Department.  Operates as a part-time member of the Parks and Recreation team; however, may provide assistance to other departments as required and coordinated with the Director.  Additionally, all staff helps provide support for events, programs and park rental operations.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for work needed for the care, maintenance, cleanliness, and safe operations of the City parks, facilities, fields, lands, aquatic facilities, playgrounds, infrastructure, and turf.
  • Landscaping, cleaning, and janitorial duties.

Identifies and implements solutions to problems in conjunction with other team members. Brings

concerns and issues impacting the parks, facilities and equipment to the attention of supervision

Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

Uses appropriate safety equipment and clothing

5

Removes debris and other safety hazards from streets, curbs, storm drains, park areas and other adjacent public areas

Conduct work in all kinds of weather; pleasant, inclement, and hazardous.

 

IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Handles equipment in a safe and appropriate manner; uses safety equipment when appropriate; determines
  • appropriate equipment and materials needed to complete complex tasks and projects.
  • Performs general parks labor and tasks to maintain parks and facilities.
  • Participates in snow removal, trash clean up, restoration work or any other duties assigned in an effort to assist in general upkeep of parks and facilities.
  • Assists vehicle driver by directing with hand signals or warning of approaching objects when backing or operating in narrow spaces
  • Utilizes mapping information to understand or plant efficient routes
  • Removes spilled refuse from collection site
  • Required to work special events.
  • Professionally interacts and communicates with the general public and internal and external customers.
  • Prepares and completes forms and paperwork as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current and valid Ohio driver’s license.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • The principles, practices, equipment, tools and materials used in electric, plumbing and construction.
  • The necessary precautions involved in the use of tools and equipment.
  • Basic safety standards for work around construction environment.

 

Abilities to: (Mental and Physical Abilities)

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

• Work independently with general direction.

• Apply problem solving skills and perform critical thinking.

• Understand and follow specific oral instructions.

• Perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.

• Lift heavy articles requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently,

and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and repetitive motions.

• Read and write letters and numbers.

Working Conditions:

The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. The worker will be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
