Performs difficult advanced technical work designing, implementing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining the public safety (Police and Fire) enterprise infrastructure. This includes networking, server, storage, database, security and backup systems.
Provides technical expertise in the area of information technology and strategic planning for public safety. Provides technical support and guidance on public safety projects. Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Safety IS Manager.

Networking expertise with Cisco networking, switches, and internal and external firewalls and VPN devices; Comprehensive knowledge and experience with NetApp storage, Microsoft SQL database, VMware infrastructure, and Microsoft operating systems; Ability to program and automate using scripting languages such as PowerShell; Knowledge and extensive experience with SQL database language; Backup system experience with Veeam or NetBackup vendor systems; Ability to effectively manage and direct IT projects from evaluation, design, selection, purchasing, implementation and maintenance; Ability to manage crisis situations, which involve complex technical software problems; Ability to analyze and apply critical thinking with attention to details; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to work under times constraints or deadlines and to multi task; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, team members, city staff, vendors, and other agencies.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree with coursework in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, extensive experience with Information Technology infrastructure systems and services; extensive experience implementing and supporting applications and systems or equivalent combination of education and experience.Physical Requirements

- Creates and Supports Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and security for remote access internally and to other agencies (FCSO, AOC, SBI, DCI) while ensuring compliance with CJIS Security policy
- Installs and Configures Network switches, Firewalls.
- Maintains demilitarized zone (DMZ) for secure public access.
- Administers Core and remote network routing, Wireless access points infrastructure, encrypted links, audit logging and accountability controls to safeguard systems.
- Maintains documentation of network configuration and systems
- Provides analysis and evaluation of network architecture needs
- Administers equipment for remote and local storage networks and IP based Voice/Telephone services (Avaya).
- Administers Microsoft's SQL databases
- Provides Backup and maintenance support for multiple databases.
- Monitors and Troubleshoots database performance and locking issues.
- Develops and Administers database exports and imports to various external applications/entities.
- Administers Vmware infrastructure, Windows Operating Systems, network, databases, and storage systems.
- Maintains and configures critical infrastructure services such as DNS (Domain Name Services), DHCP {Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IP addressing), DFS (Distributed File System) and AD (Active Directory).
- Implements and maintains disaster recovery systems.
- Evaluates trends and capacity needs and monitors performance.
- Works with customers and vendors to resolve complex issues
- Provides on call support 24/7 as needed
