What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weighmaster position at City of Winston-Salem?
Performs administrative support work weighing vehicles entering landfill in order to determine cost for waste disposal, visually inspecting loads, preparing bank deposits of landfill fees, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Weighmaster Supervisor.
- Inspects loads for proper items, estimate cost of disposal, and collect revenue based on calculated weights.
- Weighs vehicles entering the landfill and determines loan weights.
- Collects monies and accounts for same.
- Maintains detailed records on landfill use and prepares periodic reports.
- Computes volume of solid waste when weighing equipment not in operation.
- Operates computer and cash systems at solid waste facilities.
- Assists customers at window and on the phone.
- Notifies proper authority in case of vehicles broken down at the landfill.
- Runs end of day and monthly reports.
- Composes handouts for the general public.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and minimal experience working in a landfill environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment; some knowledge of standard office and department specific software; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
