What are the responsibilities and job description for the PROPERTY MAINTENANCE INSPECTOR position at City of York?
The purpose of this position is to enforce the Property Maintenance Code in order to ensure a safe, sanitary and good quality of life to the citizens of York.
This is accomplished by patrolling assigned areas to identify violations; entering violations on electronic device(s); sending copies of violation notices to property owners; entering violation notices into the appropriate system; following up on violation notices to ensure that the violations have been corrected; filing of summary citations if the violations are not corrected; filing the paperwork in the city's filing system.
Other duties include meeting with citizens and answering questions; preparing and teaching Citizen Inspector Courses; preparing and maintaining yearly spreadsheets; ensuring that complaints are transferred to the right department(s)/personnel.
Knowledge of the geography of the City of York.
Ability to learn the City of York's Codified Ordinances, including the Property Maintenance Code of the City of York, and to correctly apply them to actual field situations.
Ability to utilize necessary equipment, carrying out assigned duties while working effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision; and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to react efficiently and effectively in emergency and enforcement situations.
Ability to input and retrieve information from all Bureau software programs relevant to responsibilities.
Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
Valid Class C Operators license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Must pass a background check, Drug Test and provide PA Child Abuse History Clearance
Certificate.
Note: Child Abuse History Clearance must be dated within one year from the date of application and must show that “no record exists”.
