    Pay Scale: M6 ($48,244 - 78,608)

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    • Maintain high visibility and presence at assigned locations.
    • Be responsive to the needs of all CSD locations and respond as needed.
    • Create and maintain strong positive relationships with Students, Staff, and Stakeholders.
    • Actively partner with School Administrators regarding Administrative Investigations.
    • Proactively Patrol property to ensure any incidents impacting Safety & Security are promptly addressed.
    • Monitor high-traffic zones during peak activity via In-person observation and CCTV Systems.
    • Advises Principals and the Director of Safety & Security regarding security issues impacting students, staff, and property.
    • Support the Director of Safety & Security in developing, preparing, implementing, and maintaining school and district safety plans, policies, and emergency preparedness.
    • Perform Site Visits and measure the effectiveness of safety and security procedures.
    • Conducts or supports investigations as assigned By the Director of Safety & Security
    • Assist the Director of Safety & Security when situations require CSD Representation, such as investigation of after-hours burglar and fire alarms, and coordinate with other staff on any solutions needed to ensure the safety of the site’s personnel and plant.
    • Assist in the interagency relations with the City of Decatur Police Department, School Resource Officers, and other Federal, State, and local agencies associated with safety and security.
    • Assists in directing the deployment of law enforcement personnel to manage routine operations and emergencies.
    • Works with Principal/designee to conduct and maintain the Fire, weather, and active intruder Emergency Drill and maintain the records.
    • Support the maintenance and upkeep of key safety and security systems, including door control, surveillance camera, visitor registration, fire alarm, emergency communication, and burglar alarm systems; partner with Information Services and Operations staff to maintain the related hardware and services lifecycle.
    • Assists in coordinating district collaborative efforts with municipal agencies for accident investigations, crossing guard deployment, law enforcement, traffic management, and property protection.
    • Partner with the Director of Safety & Security to effectively communicate critical information with appropriate District Leaders during emergencies
    • Facilitates safety training
    • Protects confidentiality of records and information about students and staff and uses discretion when sharing such information within legal confines.
    • Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
    • Performs preventative patrols of district property
    • Assist in performing Background Checks and the Chain of Custody of Records.
    • Engages with job-alike colleagues to learn and share best practices; participates in ongoing professional learning
    • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
    • Collaborating with other leaders ensures the district’s compliance with local, state, and federal safety and security regulations.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Prior success working in K-12 safety and security or a related field
    • Ability to work effectively with police and security personnel and school district staff.
    • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license with no serious violations.
    • Possess a High School Diploma
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in planning, organizing, and directing security or law enforcement protective service activities involving the protection/security of persons and property
    • Excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
    • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
    • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
    • Familiarity with current standards around surveillance and security systems

    Additional Preferred Qualifications
    • Work experience with law enforcement agencies.
    • Advance training or certifications in safety and security preferred.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    • Risk management
    • Project management
    • At least five years of safety and/or security experience required

    SKILL RELATED
    • Ability to follow detailed instructions, both oral and written
    • Ability to recognize security deficiencies and recommend corrective action
    • Ability to express facts verbally and in a written report.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing this job's essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather
    conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Although most work will be completed during traditional business hours, the incumbent is expected to be available 24/7 to respond to the police or other emergency summons
    involving CSD security.
