Number of Positions: 1 Work Location: 100% On-Site Position Overview The Instructional Director will leverage their instructional strategy and classroom teaching experience to enhance the development and performance of City Year Milwaukee’s AmeriCorps members (ACMs). This role is pivotal in advancing student success, promoting educational equity, and increasing educator diversity in schools. The Instructional Director will focus on two primary areas: supporting ACMs in building the knowledge and skills required to deliver effective Tier I and Tier II interventions and leading the leadership training series for Team Leaders and Second Year ACMs. In this capacity, the Instructional Director will work within the Impact Department, collaborating closely with the Service & Learning Director and Senior Impact Directors. This collaboration aims to provide City Year Milwaukee ACMs with opportunities to develop their skills, knowledge, and mindsets through training, observation, and coaching. The Instructional Director will contribute to designing and implementing learning and development days, expanding ACMs' toolkit of strategies that center on positive youth development and holistic academic and social-emotional approaches. Job Description Full Corps Observation & Coaching (45%) School-Based Observation, Coaching, and Training: Set the vision for observation and coaching in alignment with the Impact Leadership Team and school development plans. Conduct observations of ACMs and provide feedback to improve academic and behavior interventions. Coach ACMs on adjusting interventions and improving instructional practices based on data. Build extensive knowledge of City Year observation tools and from Milwaukee Partnership Learning tools to train Impact Managers and Team Leaders ensuring consistent Tier I and Tier II skills and strategies across school teams. Manage and analyze ACM observation data with the Impact Leadership Team to develop training and programming for improving instructional practice and student outcomes. Monitor student-level performance data (e.g., academic assessment scores, course grades, behavior incidents, daily attendance) with Impact Directors and Impact Managers. Support Impact Managers in generating next steps from data analysis for ongoing training in schools. Observation and Coaching Program Execution: Lead staff training for observation and coaching. Implement the City Year observation and coaching cycle into the AmeriCorps member learning arc. Incorporate and manage progress monitoring and PDSA (Plan-Do-Study-Act) cycle for observation and coaching. Returning AmeriCorps Member Programming (20%) Plan and lead monthly Team Leader professional development (Level 5 Leadership). Define Vision for the RACM experience; this includes advocating for Impact Dept and/or site support to ensure a collaborative and effective RACM experience   Lead on planning, scheduling, and coordinating programming for Returning AmeriCorps Members Serve as additional support/mentor to Returning AmeriCorps Members, providing coaching, guidance and ensuring challenges they are facing are communicated to the correct staff members. Lesson Planning and Executing City Year-Endorsed Curriculum (20%) Training and Execution: Develop and deliver comprehensive team-based training sessions on effective lesson planning techniques. Ensure ACMs understand and apply best practices in lesson planning to meet diverse student needs. Resource Development: Create and share lesson plan templates and resources that ACMs can use and adapt. Compile a repository of effective lesson plans and instructional materials for ACMs to reference. Collaborative Planning: Facilitate collaborative lesson planning sessions where ACMs can share ideas and strategies. Encourage the use of co-planning techniques to enhance the quality of instruction. Data-Driven Planning: Guide ACMs in using student data to inform and tailor their lesson plans. Support ACMs in aligning lesson objectives with student performance data and learning goals. Master and Implement Curricula: Gain mastery of City Year-endorsed curricula and support ACMs in their implementation. Provide training and continuous support to ensure ACMs effectively use the curriculum to enhance student learning. Utilize Instructional Resources: Ensure ACMs are familiar with and fluent in using CommonLit, HMH, ST Math, and MDIS. Integrate these resources into lesson planning and instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs. Continuous Improvement: Collect and analyze feedback on curriculum implementation to identify areas for improvement. Collaborate with ACMs to adapt and refine curriculum delivery based on classroom experiences and student outcomes. AmeriCorps Learning and Development Training (10%) Lead monthly all-corps professional development sessions through the lens of Developmental Relationships Issue assessment reports on challenges, achievements, best practices, and lessons learned from observations and training sessions. Monitor student-level progress and performance data in collaboration with Impact Managers and the Impact & Analytics Director. Coach AmeriCorps members on adjusting interventions and improving instructional practices based on data. Support Collaborative Site Priorities (5%) Coordinator Roles Lead and execute oon the management and support of coordinator roles in the site (Math, ELA, Attendance, Extended Learning Time) Organizational Initiatives & Site Support: Participate in the hiring process for first-year and senior AmeriCorps members. Support Impact staff hiring processes as necessary. Engage with stakeholders, participate in events and service days, and contribute to cross-departmental committees to meet site-wide goals. Skills & Qualifications - Required At least 3 years, preferably more, of experience and demonstrated expertise as a classroom teacher that taught using culturally responsive curriculum At least 1 year, preferably more, of experience and demonstrated expertise as an instructional coach or has engaged in a role that requires program evaluation skills. Demonstrated experience designing and/or leading trainings for adult learners (e.g., facilitating professional development, supervising student teachers). Eager to support AmeriCorps members serving grades 2 to 9 in all subject areas. Demonstrated experience building successful relationships with students, differentiating instruction for diverse learners and improving student achievement. Ability to recognize the importance of an integrated approach to academics and socio-emotional development. Experience analyzing and responding effectively to student-level data. Belief that relationship-building and partnerships are essential for our work, value opportunities for collaboration, and know when to seek guidance and get diverse input for decisions. Collaboratively solve problems when challenges arise. Conveys thoughts and ideas clearly and communicates in a solution-oriented manner. Demonstrates a strong attention to detail and have proven organizational and project management skills. Can manage new challenges and self-directed learning and development. Stays up to date on current best practices in education. Enjoys working with diverse teams and stakeholders committed to expanding educational opportunities in Milwaukee and advancing social justice. Skills & Qualifications - Preferred You have a strong knowledge of literacy and/or mathematics. You have knowledge of Common Core Mathematics and/or English Language Arts and Literacy Standards. You have experience teaching in schools within Milwaukee You have actively thought about and demonstrated success in creating engaging virtual content for learners. You have a special education license, experience, and/or expertise. You have an ESL license or SEI endorsement and/or experience and demonstrated expertise working with multilingual students. You are competent in more than one language (especially: Spanish, Hmong, Burmese, Somali) Compensation and Benefits The compensation band for this role is $58,000 – $65,000.
