Summary of Position:
The Mineral Land Manager is responsible for managing the acquisition, leasing, and negotiation of mineral rights, land leases, and related agreements necessary for oil and gas exploration and production activities. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring that Civitas has access to the land and mineral resources required for its operations.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Provides guidance in establishing, monitoring, and administering all policies and procedures for all regions with respect to land-related and land administration activities.
- Interacts and manages third parties related to surface and title issues prior to, during, and after drilling new wells.
- Analyzes title opinions, assess title curative requirements, and secure title curative documents.
- Monitors well completion status and initiates orders for supplemental abstracts and division order title opinions, as applicable.
- Assists regional operational groups with annual budget planning.
- Coordinate with the Accounting Department to ensure accurate billing and revenue information is provided in a timely manner.
- Manages resources and transactions that acquire drilling rights for the company.
- Creates state and federal units.
- Participates and leads the efforts of each region in assisting the Legal Department with resolution of disputes including, but not limited to, lawsuits, mediation, arbitration, claims and demands.
- Responsible for ensuring all negotiated and finalized contracts meet the landowner’s needs.
- Manages and coordinates the activities of land and land administration personnel associated with ongoing business interactions.
- Maintains leasehold assets and stays abreast of current federal and state land regulations.
- Responsible for tracking Company gross and net acreage in all regions
- Manages and leads the negotiations of lease acquisitions, trades, joint venture agreements, joint operating agreements, and contracts necessary to meet regional goals.
- Provides input regarding formulation and implementation of exploration and development program strategies and business development.
- Coordinates with the Business Development and Legal Departments to negotiate, draft, and review oil and gas legal instruments for commercial transactions, including those related to the acquisition or divestment of properties.
- Initiates, develops, and oversees strategies that optimize leasehold and prospect portfolio land strategies.
- Handles interactions that arise with various federal, state, county, and municipal governments.
- Supervises and assists in the training of all land administration staff, including lease analysts, division order analysts, administrative support, and land records coordinator.
- Supervises maintenance of files (paper and electronic) which produce a record for analysis of lease terms and conditions and meets requirements for records retention, both internally and as required by SOX.
- Monitors production, leases, contracts and JIB and revenue decks for accuracy
- Oversees an organized and up-to-date Denver-based central Land file/records room where all paper Land files are located.
- Oversees the maintenance of file access controls.
- Ensure compliance plan for Company records retention schedule is adhered to.
- Act as intermediary for all audit related functions, both internally and with outside audit firm as well as providing data required by corporate lenders.
- Works with Financial Reporting relative to 10Qs and 10Ks for acreage reporting purposes
- Performs confidential due diligence for potential acquisitions, including, but not limited to, the confirmation of GWI/NRI for all acquired wells, and the confirmation of gross and net acres on leasehold side.
- Responsible for overseeing complete assimilation of all acquisitions into the land administration records,
- Responsible for assembling all required information, both physically and electronically for all Land records that may be necessary for a data room as it pertains to potential divestitures.
- Responsible for oversight of escheatment process
- Responsible for the oversight, from a Land perspective, of Company reserve reports and reconciling any differences as necessary.
- Keeps current on regulations and industry changes that may impact on the Company.
- Assists inter-company Company groups and provides Land data on an as needed basis.
- Undergo continuing education classes relating to oil and gas as a means of advancing current knowledge base and keeping up with industry changes.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Land Management or related field required.
- Juris Doctorate degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience working in the oil and gas industry with specific experience in division order analysis.
- Minimum of 5 years of people management experience required.
- Registered Landman (RL) certification or CPL preferred.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams) required.
Travel Requirements:
- Work is performed at a CIVI location Tues -Thurs with an option to work remotely on Monday & Friday.
- Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9 hour works days M-Thurs and 4-hour workdays Friday.
- Travel may be required to the Civitas field locations and work sites.
