Job purpose
The Crisis Intervention Counselor will serve as a member of a team to respond to crisis situation by phone or mobile response to ensure the behavioral health needs of those needing crisis intervention are appropriately served 24/7.
Duties and responsibilities
Provides a variety of crisis intervention or crisis prevention services in various community locations, including jails, hospitals, and private residences. Services will include crisis counseling, crisis case management, consultation, pre-admission screening and crisis intervention, identifying transportation resources, and report writing.
Collaborate and liaison with law enforcement officers, local hospitals, medical providers, outpatient clinics, and others in the planning, provision, and evaluation of these services.
Assists in maintaining an up-to-date Crisis Resource Directory.
Provides support, education, and service coordination to significant others on behalf of individuals who are receiving services from the Crisis Intervention Team.
Acts to ensure all day-time crisis contacts (telephone and walk-in) are handled in a timely manner
Participates as a member of the ACI on-call rotation
Serves as a notary during crisis event when necessary
Stays current on all requirements for involuntary detention procedures and law
Complete all necessary documentation in a timely manner
Complete 0ther duties as required by the position and/or as assigned by the immediate supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer
Qualifications
Education - Minimum of a Master degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related health field
Specialized knowledge- Crisis response approaches, Legal matters related to crisis response Skills/Abilities- Effective oral and written communication.
Experience- QMHP as defined by State regulations
Working conditions
General Conditions- Work is generally performed in office type settings where answering phone and using computers and other technology should be expected.
Special conditions -Meetings with clients outside the office are common and may require ability to tolerate prolonged exposure to smoke and pets.
Physical requirements
General Conditions- Job duties may require sitting or standing for long periods of time. Travel, with some trips requiring several hours in a vehicle, should be expected. Minor lifting and moving may be expected requiring ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Special conditions -Meetings with clients outside the office may require ability to enter and access homes/buildings of all configurations.
