Position Summary: The job of Paint Crew Member is for the purpose/s of providing painting services with specific responsibility for preparing, painting and/or staining a variety of surfaces; ensuring completion of projects in accordance with standards; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at the job site.
General Purpose: Work with the paint crew for the purpose of completing projects in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining quality and meeting standards.
Position Responsibilities:
- Paint interior and exterior surfaces as needed sometimes using up to an 8 foot ladder
- Work with a team of individuals painting dorms and other odd jobs over the summer
- Prepare dorm rooms using brushes, rollers and sprayers
- Work with co-workers to complete painting projects throughout residence halls, academic buildings, and administrative offices
- Scrapes, sands, and joint compounds, fillers, etc. to surfaces needing repair work
- Applies caulks, joint compounds fillers, etc., to surfaces
- Moves furniture in and out of dorm rooms, equipment, etc., to prevent paint splatters
- Use drop cloths and similar protective covers to provide protection to personal property, furniture, floors, etc.
- Insure all work sites/spaces are left neat, clean, and professional, including removal of tools, trash, sweeping or vacuuming floors
- Maintains tools and equipment (e.g. cleans brushes, sprayers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability and safe operating condition
- Transport a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at each job site

- Previous paint experience is desirable, but not required
Special Note: In this position you are exposed to solvents and glue products. Paint contains carcinogens and appropriate care should be taken when exposed. In addition, these products may cause irritation to the lungs, eyes or skin when used improperly. Paint should be applied in well-ventilated areas. Appropriate protection, such as goggles and gloves will be provided and should be used when necessary. Persons with contact lenses may encounter difficulty with paint fumes. It has been shown to cause irritation to the eyes of those that wear them.
