What are the responsibilities and job description for the LANDFILL GATEMAN - ENTERPRISE FUND LANDFILL position at Clayton County Government?
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to facilitate the daily operations of the landfill, recycling center, and/or transfer station. Duties include screening solid waste to ensure no hazardous or unacceptable materials are left at the center; collecting money; assisting and directing customers; and/or maintaining daily logs and records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Meets all incoming customers to the landfill, transfer station, and/or recycling area; performs spot checks on incoming loads and ensures materials are acceptable; directs customers; and answers questions from users and the public.
Collects money and fees from citizens who are disposing of refuse, provides change and ticket/receipt, and submits money and related paperwork; or checks tickets/receipts of customers and ensures payment has been made prior to disposing waste.
Provides information and instructions to users regarding the policies, procedures, proper disposal of waste, etc.
Maintains daily reports such as logs of the number of vehicles per hour.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
May operate equipment in order to haul, transport and/or bury solid waste in the landfill.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by six (6) months of performing customer service work or working at a solid waste facility; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
