Job Description
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Provide planning, supervision and documentation for excavation activities and utility installations. Responsibilities will also include training personnel in excavation and pipe laying, equipment operation, and other tasks involved in excavation and utility operations. The Project Foreman directs the site crew according to the project time line and provides the necessary training on proper safety and operational procedures. The Foreman is the front-line safety officer for the site/project, and is directly responsible for the safety of their crew.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provides leadership and is responsible for safety, scheduling, workforce planning, coordinating, supervising and assisting with cost control; ensuring the consistent and fair application of all SSC policies and procedures.
· Directly supervises and coordinates the activities of field employees in site construction. Site work including road construction, excavation, backfilling, compaction, grading, testing, and utility installation for subdivisions, apartment complexes, commercial, and retail locations.
· Knowledge of mass grading sequencing and placement of transported material. Ability to do field staking and coordinating with surveyors and engineers as required.
· Inspects work site to determine sequencing and method of utility installation and survey for potential hazards or safety concerns.
· Knowledge of sediment control devices, erosion regulations, and installation methods.
· Identifies, verifies and reports any scheduling conflicts, needs, or deficiencies with other crews and subcontractors to the appropriate persons.
· Lays out, assembles, installs, main water pipeline, main sewer pipe line, storm drain systems, flanged piping and valve installations, applying knowledge of system operation, and following construction documents. Follow municipality inspection procedures for each phase.
· Understands and communicates safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance in all areas of safety, while identifying the needs for crew safety training.
· Assesses competency and capability of employees on the project, and evaluates the capabilities of the crew members. Recognizes and addresses issue/problems that may arise among crew members and provides effective resolutions.
· Supervise all company equipment and vehicle use; ensure all maintenance procedures are being followed. Assist in equipment purchase, rental, and allocation. Ability to troubleshot equipment issues and work with mechanics and vendors to provide economical solutions.
