Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Review and test the operating effectiveness of internal controls. This includes:
- Walkthroughs with internal Business Process Owners (“BPOs”) who are the Control Owners to ensure understanding of processes and procedures with necessary controls to ensure financials are accurately/completely reported.
- Identify new risks and trends utilizing technology and data analysis. Is the current set of controls sufficient to cover all financial risk? If not, develop controls with BPOs as required.
- Strategic decision-making around processes and effectiveness of controls. Analyze the effectiveness of both processes and controls to identify, recommend, and support the implementation of improvements.
- Sample test in cycles (interim, roll forward, year-end) and document operating effectiveness of controls including those that have been deficient and since remediated.
- Work on special projects identified by Leadership to find strategic solutions to deficient processes.
- Serve as a liaison with Internal Audit and External audit teams.
- Ongoing, coordination with Management and BPOs to maintain and update all internal controls and related documentation.
- Participate in remediating SOX deficiencies and implementing the design of appropriate internal controls around new business processes.
- Manage projects as assigned, which may have critical timelines and high visibility with Senior Leadership.
- Travel as required to US-based Transfer, Storage, and Disposal Facilities (“TSDF”) facilities to test the operating effectiveness of controls including compliance in order progression; disposal and transportation accruals; and that documentation requirements are maintained.
- Sundry duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance.
- Minimum Finance degree and preferably CPA with audit experience.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to engage with Management on any deficiencies identified, with suggestions for improvements.
- Advanced PC skills to allow for effective data mining in financially significant order management systems and utilizing EXCEL pivot tables and X-look-ups.
- Utilize the Audit Board application to manage testing work papers and as a documentation repository.
- Effective problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing situations.
- Personality to be diplomatic and engaging; independent to complete work timely; confident when issues found to stay the course.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA audit experience
