Basic Function

The Estimating Manager reports to the President, Boiler Systems and will manage a team in estimating and the development of cost proposals for new business opportunities in collaboration with Sales Representatives, Product Management and Operations counterparts. The Estimating Manager is accountable for the development of complete cost proposals for small and large and/or complex heating system projects

Essential Duties:

  • Direct, train, hire and manage the estimating department and department functions.
  • Develop and maintain estimating templates, tools, and software and work to establish efficient workflow procedures.
  • Develop and execute policies and procedures related to the estimating process.
  • Develop and maintain active bid list in order to manage groups activities and hit project deadlines.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and review estimates to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and submit clarifications and exceptions lists for projects.
  • Provide technical support and training as required
  • Perform conceptual estimates for budgetary purposes for potential clients.
  • Act as a Lead Estimator on complex packages or as workload demands.
  • Participate in pre/post-bid meetings, bid strategy and presentation meetings as requested by sales team.
  • Upon bid award, assist operations department in scope evaluations, vendor negotiations, and project turnover to operations.
  • Perform periodic reviews of active projects estimated cost vs. actual cost, scope deficiencies, means and methods of self-performed work, schedule and project specific issues that affected the project estimate.
  • Brief Senior Leadership on complex projects for approvals as required.
  • Work with and lead other Estimators and project team members, encourage ethics in estimating; be aggressive yet reasonable in strategically determining bid fees, buy-downs, and profit margins.
  • Coordinate with Procurement & Supply Management to set up new vendors, obtain vendor quotes in support of detailed cost proposals development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations technical and/or related experience.
  • Minimum 5 years mechanical system estimating experience including ability to estimate heating systems. Familiarity with a variety of the mechanical and construction concepts and practices.
  • Minimum 3 plus years experience managing employees including goal setting and career development.
  • Excellent communicative, interpersonal and supervisory skills required.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, specifically Excel.
  • Experience using SalesForce or other CRM system is a plus.

Working Conditions and Hazards: Normal plant, shop, field or office conditions. From time to time, slightly disagreeable features. Negligible/little or no exposure to hazardous conditions.
