Summary:
Collects, analyzes and summarizes financial information to meet income, franchise, sales and use, and property tax reporting requirements. Prepares information returns for employee benefit plans. Demonstrates a basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles. Has a general understanding of federal, state and local tax regulations and reporting requirements. Registers various entities with secretaries of state and departments of revenue. Completes tax information for FERC Form One. Assists in tax audits. Pays all tax department invoices in a timely manner.
Minimum Requirements:
Associate level
- Bachelor degree in Accounting required or related degree.
- CPA or Masters Candidate preferred.
Mid level:
- Bachelor degree in Accounting required or related degree.
- Three years of tax related experience required.
Senior level:
- Bachelor degree in Accounting required or related degree.
- Five years of tax related experience required.
Principal Accountabilities
Prepares and maintains clear and concise work papers to support filings with governmental authorities. Analyzes financial statements to ensure integrity of amounts by creating queries of selected data. Reviews supporting documentation for journal entries and communicates with preparer when further clarification is needed.
Works with other departments within Cleco Support Group and the affiliates to gather information necessary to complete various tax returns. Performs tests of reasonableness on data received and assists customers when corrections are necessary.
Researches new or proposed tax laws to aid in corporate decision-making with emphasis on tax mitigation. Assists in creative tax planning and corresponding strategy development.
Works effectively with benefit plan administrators, trustees, policyholders, and the Human Resources Department to gather information necessary for filing benefit plan returns.
Represents the department on special projects or teams.
Performs and reviews tax account reconciliations and true ups and shares results with the tax department, as well as internal or external customers.
Designs and maintains a useful model for calculating FAS 109 tax provision, FAS 71 regulatory assets and liabilities, and related forecasts, as well as functionalization for utility accounting.
