What are the responsibilities and job description for the AGRIntelligence Technician position at Cleco?
The AGRIntelligence (AI) Technician trains and assists the retail location team in the implementation and use of precision agriculture technologies including soil sampling, EC data collection, yield monitoring technical assistance and other tasks related to customer service of precision agriculture information management services. This may also include farm data collection, data analysis and data delivery responsibilities as assigned by the Branch Manager.
Helena's trademarked "AGRIntelligence" business, often referred to as "AI" internally, was developed by Helena over 20 years ago to focus exclusively on creating new and innovative technologies to analyze each specific field to help guide our growers critical decisions and prevent potential problems in an effort to help make them more successful year after year.
The employee's primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena or Helena's customers. This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.
What your day may look like
- Researches and evaluates new GIS and other technologies.
- Reviews and performs the necessary quality control on AI products created for customers.
- Delivers and communicates AI products and services to customers and presents to the customer with the assistance of the sales team.
- Assists the sales team with the positioning and selling of AI products and services.
- Communicates with the AI Information Specialist and AI Services Manager to deliver AI products and services that meet company standards.
- Ensures that AI products and services meet the company standards and requirements.
- Communicates and interacts with the Branch Manager, sales team, AI field support center and other AI team members regularly to meet customer deadlines and expectations.
- Provides technical training and support to the Helena team and customers who are utilizing the AI services
- Acts as the primary source of all AI field work such as soil sampling, tissue sampling, Veris machine work, setting field boundaries, etc.
- Works as the liaison between the Branch and Division Agronomist in all matters related to AI services.
- Assists the branch in all service-related sales such as seed treating and other services. This includes being heavily involved and, in many cases, the primary person responsible in the treatment of all seed that is treated by the branch team.
- Performs and/or facilitates teaching activities on the use of GPS-related field and office software.
- Performs analysis based upon gathered field data to determine field management strategies. Makes field and crop recommendations based upon analysis.
- Trains and assists location team with precision farming activities including gathering soil samples using GIS technology and training in the use of electrical conductivity equipment (i.e. Veris, EM38).
- Serves as the key contact for hardware and software issues including providing troubleshooting assistance to the locations and farmers for the operation of precision agriculture software and hardware components.
- Ensures that all data collected through the functions of the job are safely and securely transferred to the central processing center for timely processing.
- Installs precision agriculture equipment such as VRT hardware, yield monitors, computers and software at the locations, in the farmers' fields, and in application equipment.
- Other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
- Reliable and regular attendance is expected.
Education and experience needed for this position
- A bachelor's degree is required or no degree and three years of related work experience is required.

- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel up to 25-30 percent or less.

This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
