The Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism (CISC) at Clemson University invites applications for a one-year, Hayek Visiting Scholar position (HVS) to begin August 2023. The Hayek Visiting Scholar works and teaches in the CISC’s undergraduate Lyceum Program, which explores the classic texts of moral and political philosophy. We encourage applicants whose teaching philosophy and research agenda fit with this mission.
The Hayek Visiting Scholar position, housed in the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism (CISC), is designed to provide young or underplaced scholars with teaching, administrative, mentoring, and research/writing experience. The teaching load for the HVS position will be 3-4 courses per academic year depending on the needs of the Lyceum Program. The Hayek Visiting Scholar will be expected to teach courses in Political Theory or in a secondary field as needed by the Lyceum Program and the Department of Political Science. The HVS will assist in administering the activities and scholarship of the Lyceum Program and the CISC, including the evaluation of applications or reading/editing CISC material. The Hayek Visiting Scholar will also be expected to participate in the Lyceum Program’s Socratic Tutoring program by serving as a faculty mentor to a small number of Lyceum Scholars each semester. Finally, the HVS will also be expected to pursue an active research and writing agenda.
PhD preferred but will accept candidates who are close to PhD completion.
