The Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller is seeking a well-organized, detail-oriented professional who likes the challenge of variety and possesses excellent time management skills to join our team as a Board Meetings Specialist in our value adjustment board.
The value adjustment board (VAB) settles disputes between taxpayers and the property appraiser. A taxpayer may file a petition with the Value Adjustment Board if he or she feels the Property Appraiser's assessment, classification or exemption status for their property is not correct. As Clerk of the VAB, our office receives and processes petitions, schedules and coordinates hearings, clerks and records the hearings and more.

Examples of Essential Functions

  • Receives and processes all VAB petitions and filing fees; balances all fees with accompanying receipts and documentation.

  • Schedule hearing dates; prepares and mails hearing notices to petitioners; notifies municipalities of parcels (with petitions) located within their boundaries.

  • Schedules and clerks VAB hearings with the Property Appraiser’s Office, to include personnel such as, Special Magistrates. Prepares hearing rooms, orders necessary supplies.

  • Inputs hearing information into computer; corresponds with parties as required, including sending out Final Decision Forms to petitioners and agents.

  • Maintains VAB records in accordance with State statutes and other governing rules

  • Participates in Special Magistrates orientation and training; maintains associated records and documentation; assists in accurately documenting Special Magistrate invoices

  • Assists with computer testing, upgrades, and problem resolution. Regularly monitors VAB reports and mailbox

Typical Qualifications

High school diploma (or GED), supplemented by three (3) years of recent and relevant experience; some vocational or college courses preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
