What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Assistant position at Cleveland Metroparks?
The Research Assistant aids in the counting and recording of Park District visitors and in the data collection and compilation of in-person survey data.
This position will be assigned duties that will take place throughout the park district, with frequent visits to various reservations. Although less frequent, office hours will take place at Cleveland Metroparks Administrative Offices.
Essential Functions:
- Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
- Interacts with park visitors to collect data via iPad and/or paper/pencil survey methods
- Reviews research reports and/or articles and prepare summaries
- Records number of vehicles and pedestrians entering Park District roadways and paths, at times recording the number of people per vehicle.
- Provides reports of vehicle and pedestrian counts to supervisor.
- Records counts from mechanical counters and provide reports to supervisor.
- Performs data entry tasks as required.
- Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
- Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
- Attends project meetings when necessary.
- Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license under the laws of the State of Ohio. Must show proof of auto insurance.
- Demonstrated ability to provide own transportation.
- Demonstrated ability to record the type (auto, bicycle) and amount of vehicular and pedestrian traffic entering Park District roadways and paths.
- Ability to use basic arithmetic.
- Previous research/survey experience and/or related college course experience preferred.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
- Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
- Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
