Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant supports the Finance Department in a key accounting role and oversees the accounting and reporting of all financial information and ensures all financial transactions of the Park District are processed and recorded in a timely manner and meet all applicable laws and guidelines.

Essential Functions:

1. Effectively supervises assigned employees, including the following:
   1. Interviews, selects and trains employees;
   2. Coaches employees in proper job performance techniques and procedures;
   3. Directs work of employees and sets/adjusts hours of work;
   4. Maintains records on employee productivity and appraises employees’ productivity and efficiency to recommend promotions or other changes in status;
   5. Handles employee complaints and disciplines employees when necessary;
   6. Apportions work among different employees;
   7. Monitors or implements legal compliance measures;
   8. Determines the type of materials, supplies, or tools to be used by employees and controls the flow and distribution of materials and supplies; and
   9. Provides for the safety of employees and the property of Cleveland Metroparks.
2. Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
3. Oversees aspects of the accounting and reporting functions for the Park District.
4. Assists the Accounting Manager with balancing ledgers and closing books at month and year-end. Reviews journal entries for ACH payments (electric bills, credit card fees, spirits purchases, medical and payroll bills, etc
5. Reviews and/or performs bank, ledger, and account reconciliations.
6. Maintains financial records and implements office/accounting procedures to maintain an efficient workflow.
7. Participates in the development, communication, and implementation of policies and procedures Park District-wide.
8. Analyzes financial records and designs and generates reports which require a variety of advanced personal computer skills.
9. Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for financial statement preparation and audit purposes.
10. Reviews expenditure cycle transactions and accounts payable, which includes, but is not limited to:
    1. Understanding Cleveland Metroparks’ procure-to-pay and internal cost allocation processes
    2. Ensuring accurate entry, classification and presentation of expenditures in the financial system and resulting financial statements
    3. Analyzing expense fluctuations and communicating actionable information to address areas of concern
11. Reviews revenue cycle transactions and accounts receivable, which includes, but is not limited to:
    1. Understanding Cleveland Metroparks’ revenue control systems (point-of-sale and payment processing systems)
    2. Monitoring contracts for items to be billed and following up on outstanding invoices
    3. Reviewing taxable and non-taxable items with revenue locations and completing Ohio Sales Tax return
12. Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
13. Carries out duties and responsibilities safely and efficiently to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers, and the public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
14. Updates and enhances own knowledge by involvement in continuing education for professional growth (i.e., attends relevant conferences, seminars, in-service training, and certification programs)
15. Communicates information and provides constructive input to assure that long-term and short-term planning initiatives are compatible with the Finance Department and the mission of Cleveland Metroparks.
16. Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
