SUMMARY:
This is a direct service position that is part of the Medication Assisted Therapy Team. The MAT Technician will serve as an assistant to the MAT Supervisor.
TRAITS and CHARACTERISTICS:
The MAT Technician should be a sensitive and understanding professional who can perform the duties of the position in a respectful yet determined manner. The MAT Tech should be empathetic and have the ability to gain the trust of their patient’s. The MAT Tech must be detailed in record-keeping and communications for documentation purposes and quality assurance. The MAT Tech must have excellent verbal and oral communication skills that adept easily to adults with varying needs and issues. They must be trained in and always adhere to confidentiality protocols within the MAT program, as well as within COGI.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES:
The primary job responsibilities of the MAT Tech include but are not limited to:
1. Collect and test drug screens – instant test results and/or send out drug screens to the appropriate lab.
2. Create labels in the lab system to send out drug screen samples.
3. Input new patient’s into the lab system.
4. Review drug screens for the doctor’s.
5. Refer any patient’s to primary care, mental health, OBGYN, dental and/or any specialty services they may need.
6. Request labs from other facilities, doctor’s offices or hospitals.
7. Provide information to patient’s regarding wellness and healthy living.
8. Check the Pennsylvania Prescription Monitoring System for each clinic.
9. Document all pertinent information in the patient’s electronic health record (CareLogic).
10. Assist with making sure patient’s who have missed appointments receive follow-up calls and appointments.
11. Collect blood samples as needed when prescribed by the doctor.
12. The MAT Tech will be working in and around certain bodily fluids (including blood, urine and saliva) and must have a working knowledge of handling, clean up and disposal of said fluids.
13. Restock supplies in the lab area.
14. Comply with HIPPA laws as well as confidentiality regulations within a substance abuse facility.
15. Maintain established performance and conduct standards in accordance with organizational expectations.
16. Other duties as assigned by the MAT supervisor.

Excellent communication skills on different levels are critical to be successful in this position. The MAT Tech must be able to address sensitive and traumatic issues while offering information to clients and answer questions in a respectful manner. The MAT Tech must be able to problem solve and meet the needs of all clients within the parameters of confidentiality set forth by licensing regulations, state and federal requirements and COGI.
Professional Competency:
The MAT Tech must acquire and document continuing education requirements for the field and remain in good standing with professional organizations that monitor licensing.
Job Knowledge/Education:
The MAT Tech must show proficiency in job duties as provided by prior experience and/or training from the COGI staff.
The MAT Tech must be able to adapt to programmatic and/or organizational changes to meet the needs of the program and/or COGI.
Education
A High School Diploma and Medical Assistant Certification are required. Experience working in a non-profit and working in a Substance Abuse Facility is preferred but not required. Proficiency in basic computer, general office equipment and Microsoft Office is required.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the MAT Tech is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak and hear. The position requires computer use so the employee must have sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable otherwise qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Travel:
The MAT Tech must be able to travel to attend conferences, training and other events as required to acquire and maintain proficiency in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.
Work Environment:
The work environment at COGI’s office in Pottsville is a clinic style office setting. The noise level of the work environment is usually low to moderate. Reasonable accommodations in the work environment may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform their essential functions. Due to variations in workload requirements and an employee’s personal needs, the Executive Director or designee may allow/require flexibility in the days worked and the times worked. Such variations require prior approval from the Executive Director or designee.

Pay: $14.50 - $16.00 per hour
