Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
Keep up to date with developments in the subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
Recruit and retain students in the middle and high school choir program.
Attending all required staff meetings and attending designated school functions outside of school hours.
Develop course syllabus and lesson plans.
Prepare the classroom for class activities.
Use relevant technology to support instruction.
Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.
Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
Assist in the arrangement of transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trips.
Support booster club activities and comply with board policy regarding booster rules and regulations.
Recommend policies to improve program.
Ensure that programs are cost-effective, and funds are managed wisely.
Develop budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
Assist in the coordination of fundraising activities and management of choir funds.
Assist in maintaining current inventory of all fixed assets within department.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintain professional relationships with campus and feeder choir directors, colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Mississippi teacher’s license.
Licensed in K-12 Instrumental or Vocal & General Music or be able to obtain licensure by the beginning of the school year.
Demonstrate strong instructional skills and classroom management.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree with 18 hours of subject area course work
Experience with secondary aged students.
Experience with integrating technology in a 1:1 classroom.
