MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The Quality Engineer position requires experience and skill in driving standardization, consistency and improvement of quality systems and GMP’s across all shifts in their functional area of responsibility, including special projects. This position is a key leader who provides direction, support, leads projects, drives consistency, and leads problem solving for areas associated with plastics injection molding equipment related to Quality Systems and Food Safety. Candidate is responsible to lead the Quality Assurance & Food Safety efforts within the Plant as designated.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will be responsible for the quality process including critical process characteristics, standards, audits, complaint resolutions, training and laboratory functions related to Quality and Food Safety.
• This position will report directly to the Quality Manager.
• Lead and manage indirect reports within the facility to meet or exceed targets and objectives set by the company related to food safety.
• Proactive review of improvement of systems and process to ensure maintenance of Standards.
• Conduct training of Quality and Food Safety concepts and tools.
• Develop, implement and improve Quality Management Systems.
• Create and maintain company documentation such as Quality Manuals, Standards and Procedures.
• Meet with all levels and departments within the factory to discuss results and recommend solutions.
• Follow all procedures and SOP’s for the facility i.e., LTTV, GMP rules, etc.
• Be aware of hazardous materials in the area and the proper handling of hazardous materials. Awareness will be achieved through training, MSDS review, safety meetings, and toolbox meetings.
• Be aware of, understand, and follow emergency procedures.
• Report all spills or other environmental incidents following EHS protocol.
• Must follow all rules & comply with mandatory Job-Observations, IFE’s, IFO’s, Walkabouts, Monday Reports, Quality training, monthly awareness training & any required departmental training/projects on time without supervision.
• Participate in investigations of environmental incidents. Integration of quality systems to ensure a common quality system throughout the North American Plant locations.
• Provide manufacturing personnel with quality systems and tools to allow effective evaluation of products and processes.
• Ensure the application of advanced quality tools to provide process improvement to the manufacturing group.
• Ensure that quality tools and system training are adequate to meet the Plant’s Quality and Food Safety goals.
• Formulate and maintain accurate Quality Documentation including policies and procedures.
• Provide leadership and direction to the team to enable them to perform their tasks.
• Be alert to and welcome new learning opportunities. Always try to increase education/training.
• Ensure that (where applicable) the supply chain is made aware of their food safety obligations as our partner in the quest to deliver a safe product to the consuming public.

EDUCATIONAL AND OTHER SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree required; preferable in an appropriate technical discipline (Engineering, Math, & Science) with a minimum of 5 years related industrial experience. Must have in-depth knowledge of their functional area of responsibility in order to lead others.
• Experience with plastic molding equipment and rotating machinery highly preferred.
• Must have a working knowledge of statistics, SPC and Design of Experiments. Must have the ability to train production employees and engineers in advanced statistical methods.
• Must have experience in ISO 9000 procedures and quality system implementation.
• Must have familiarity with GMPs used in the food and food packaging industries. Must have familiarity with FDA regulations as they apply to food packaging and food safety.
• Must have good computer skills and be knowledgeable in the use of Excel, Word, and statistical software such as Minitab. Additionally, background experience in CAD would be desired.
• Must have experience in dealing with customers in a complaint situation. Must possess communication skills to effectively deal with customers who are experiencing frustration and products from CSI.
• Must be familiar with physical inspection processes, tools, equipment and gauging and also be able to conduct gauge reproducibility and repeatability studies.
• Teamwork, positive communication with others, and team problem solving are required. Written communication must follow CSI standards and values. This position requires frequent verbal and written communication with all employees and management at the facility. In some cases, the position may require communication with equipment manufacturers or representatives.
POSITION DEMANDS:
Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality. This is a requirement of this position.
Expected to coordinate efforts with employees working on shifts other than your own.
Customer Interaction required. This position has both internal and external customers, so positive communication is required at all times, both written and verbal.
Teamwork is required of all employees in the facility including positive team communications, conflict management, problem solving, and following principles, policies, and values in the employee handbook and the facility’s controlled documents.
Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment/clothing: All CSI employees in the facility are required to wear T-shirt uniforms, pants in good repair, ANSI Z41.1991 Safety Shoes, ANSI Z87.1 Safety Glasses, Approved eyewear, hairnets, gloves, and safety vests in specific applications following our GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) policies. All Salaried employees must also comply with these standards while on the manufacturing floor except the T-shirt uniform requirement.
Travel may be required of this position, often upon short notice.
Available to be on call to go into the factory or answer questions and give support over the phone. Available to work different shifts and weekends.

What physical requirements are expected of this position?

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT*
The work environment includes exposure to Operating machinery in a manufacturing environment, constant noise, grease, dirt or oil. Constant exposure to moving parts and equipment requires high degree of caution and safety to avoid minor or serious injury. Temperature regulated work environment in addition to exposure to extremely warm or cold outside conditions or areas of the facility that are not temperature regulated
This position functions in a high speed molding production environment. The pace of activities on the production floor is very fast with the requirement to make decisions about product quality in a timely manner. In many cases the decisions must be made with minimal data available. This position must balance the requirements for new product development and qualification of these within the manufacturing environment, with quality process improvement, reduction of manufacturing irregularities, and improvement in customer satisfaction levels related to food safety protocols. This position is subject to rapidly changing priorities as production schedules, customer requirements, and process technology change. CSI manufactures plastic mechanical tamper-evident beverage closures for the soft-drink market, and other selected specialty markets. This position reports directly to the N.A. Quality Director. Frequent contact with production, maintenance, and management personnel as well as customers in other locations. Certain departments are subjected to intense and constant noise levels, and work area may be quite warm. Continuous exposure to moving machinery and threat of serious injury when safety rules are ignored.
Environmental Conditions: Warehouse, production facility or office environment which is climate controlled. Employees may work around moving parts and mobile equipment. Exposure to noise levels requiring hearing protection if in production area.
