Minister of Music Job Description
Position: Minister of Music (Part Time)
Purpose: To serve as Minister of Music for Clover Presbyterian Church. This is a church staff member role and is expected to work closely with all other staff members and volunteers. Our goal is to expand on our music program, creating a blended worship experience of traditional and contemporary music styles.
Supervision: Under the supervision of the pastor of the church
Relationship with others: Responsible to the Session through the Music and Worship Ministry Team
of the church, serves as a member of the church staff and works closely with all staff members.
Specific Responsibilities:
a. Develop, oversee and direct adult choirs, and supervise/coordinate the work of the children’s choir.
b. Instruments currently include Organ and Piano; seeking to add other instruments and contemporary component to music ministry.
c. Utilize volunteers as is feasible.
d. In co-ordination with the pastor, select choir anthems appropriate for the church year.
e. Maintain scheduled rehearsals for all choirs.
f. Purchase new music as needed, within budget; keep all music organized for easy access.
g. Utilize the musical talents of those in the church who play musical instruments and actively recruit new choir members.
h. Plan special music for all worship services of the church, including special services such as Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Renewal services as requested.
i. Provide a varied selection of music types.
j. Be available for consultation/guidance on all music by any church/church related groups or individual.
k. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor or Session.
Qualifications: A commitment to Jesus Christ is required. Background in church music, with a broad and varied repertoire, a demonstrated mastery of musical performance (Piano preferred, Organ and other instruments a plus), and experience in directing choirs or musical groups is required. An enthusiastic personality is needed, along with the ability to motivate and lead others.
Requirements of Time: 10-12 hours/week
a. Weekly rehearsal with Adult Choir. Oversight/Supervision of those volunteers and staff responsible for other musical ensembles, as needed.
b. Worship Planning with staff.
c. Sunday Worship (currently at 10 AM)
d. Special Worship services during the year: Christmas Eve, various Easter services, cantatas, as well as other special services that may arise.
e. Attend staff meetings.
f. Other rehearsals as needed.
g. Practice/preparation time.
Shall be subject to by Personnel Committee which will report findings to Session.
Remuneration and Benefits: Salary: $12,000 - $14,000
Vacation: 4 weeks – Prorated (1 week/3months service)
