Summary
Reporting to the Director of Food Safety, the Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Clydes quality management systems and processes. The Quality Assurance Manager will manage a team of Quality Assurance Technicians across (3) shifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create, maintain, and validate quality processes by establishing and documenting product specifications, quality attributes and controls. Prepare and implement operations and QA standard operating procedures (SOP's) that support company programs and requirements. Drive continuous quality improvement through use of systematic tools and processes.
- Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, corrective actions, and re-validations.
- Manage the quality assurance team including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and developing employees; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Serve as the primary plant contact for customers and suppliers for all quality related issues.
- Communicate quality objectives and provide effective training (and ensure adherence to standards) for operations, vendors, and external contractors in quality requirements.
- Ensure physical plant inspections are conducted on a daily basis to review the quality of products in production and help identify the poor-quality products and report poor quality products to the operation management team.
- Provide support to the food safety team ensuring food safety practices including regulatory policies, procedures, and practices are maintained to Company and regulatory standards. Provide support for food safety audits.
- Ensure key traceability, oversee vendor management programs, testing, and allergen program compliance for all incoming ingredient and packaging materials.
- Achieve all quality related key performance indicators.
- Monitor and meet Quality financial budget.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in food science, food technology, chemistry, or related field.
- At least 5 years experience in a food processing plant leading quality control programs.
- At least 2 years experience in a supervisory/management capacity.
- Knowledge of the construction of and performance characteristics of packaging materials
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent observation and analytical skills.
- Ability to work with data in Excel, Access, and software like Minitab or Power BI.
- Ability to handle numerous projects in progress at one time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree related to food science.
- HACCP Certified & Quality related certifications (SQF/ASQ etc.)
- Experience in statistical process control (SPC).
- Bakery manufacturing experience.
