What You'll Do
- Establish long term waste management solutions which comply with the needs of plant operations
- Develop and implement various environmental programs, plans and response protocols
- Conduct on-site inspections to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and corporate environmental policies and guidelines
- Maintain Division's environmental files and reports
- Provide routine environmental management system (EMS) support
- Keep up-to-date with federal, state, and local environmental regulations by attending periodic training courses
- Participate as requested in environmental compliance and various other environmental matters
- Participate and/or direct EMS plant audits and activities
- Maintain productive relationships with plant personnel and regulatory agencies
- Responsible for successfully communicating and executing company policies, programs, and procedures
- Support staff at multiple affiliate metal recycling and steel fabrication locations in the Western United States
- Work independently with outside consultants, contractors, and other resources
- Experience in environmental compliance areas including air/water quality management issues, solid waste/hazardous materials management, radiation detection systems
- General knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and a familiarity with steel manufacturing or similar heavy industrial operations
- Ability to obtain US EPA Method 9 Certification (Visible Emissions Certification)
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize
- Excellent writing and computer skills including email and Microsoft software products (e.g., Word, Excel, & PowerPoint)
- Able to clearly communicate expectations, issues and feedback
- Ability to travel 10% of the time
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Sciences, Geology, Biology, Engineering or equivalent experience required
