Who We Are
CMG is a strategic consulting firm that partners to transform organizations challenged with the pressures of an ever-evolving landscape. Our Controller manages the financial operations of our firm supporting two main offices – Durham, NC and Washington, DC – as well as our remote employee locations. The firm services a wide variety of clients covering 10–20 states in any given year.
This is a full-time role, responsible for the day-to-day delivery of all activities. We are ideally looking for candidates in the Washington, D.C. or Durham, N.C. area, given our office locations there, but are open to candidates anywhere along the east coast. We are looking to bring our new Controller on-board in late August/early September 2021 (start date flexible).
Big Picture: What will you do?
- You will be a member of the Senior Leadership team, managing our strategic financial planning to achieve double digit revenue growth over the next 4 years
- You will ensure sound financial operations by proactively evaluating progress against goals & firm profitability
- You will maximize the firm’s financial performance by effectively and efficiently evolving its financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems
The Details: How we get there.
Financial Operations
- Owns relationships with external vendors and partners, liaising with outside auditors, financial institutions, tax, and legal teams
- Manages financial reporting for senior leadership team, utilizing KPIs, dashboards, and tools to provide effective forecasts, insights, and recommendations
- Leads the annual budgeting and firm financial planning process. Analyzes forecast, operational costs, and earned revenue to evaluate progress against goals & firm profitability
- Manages our firm’s systems and processes including accounts receivable/accounts payable/bank reconciliations/payroll
Compliance & Regulations
- Manages and complies with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, including all corporate registrations and reporting (local, state, and federal)
- Processes firm payroll and performance bonuses, 401k contributions, and administration of benefits
- Proactively identifies, with partner service providers (tax, accounting, and legal), issues CMG needs to address, and recommends actions based on existing and new legislation, compliance requirements, etc.
- Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
Qualifications:
- Proven experience with 15+ years in financial management, preferably in a multi-state professional services business
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent
- Certified Public Accountant license, strongly desired
- Strong working knowledge in GAAP, accounting practices and internal controls
- Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals
- Demonstrated analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities
- Auditing and corporate (multi-state) tax filing experience
- Well versed in financial compliance and legal requirements
- Demonstrated proficiency in financial operations software stack (accounting, time & expense, payroll, Office 365, analytics, etc.)
