What are the responsibilities and job description for the Site Coordinator position at Coach Sam's Scholars?
Position reports to: Academic Director
Purpose: Coach Sam's Scholars (CSS), a nonprofit organization that supports inner-city at-risk youth, is seeking college graduates, professionals, educators, and upper-level college students to tutor 2nd, 3rd & 4th grade students in an after-school reading program called "Aiming Higher." The underlying goal of the program is to improve the students' reading proficiency prior to entering fourth grade. Note: All precautions for Covid-19 will be strictly followed.
Program Operations: Coach Sam’s programs operate 4 Days a week (Monday-Thursday) at various times after school, beginning at 1:30p and ending at 6:00p. Start time and end time can vary depending on availability.
Location: Tutoring at schools in the Cleveland Municipal School District
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide intentional, meaningful and fun literacy instruction during all parts of the session to improve the early literacy skills of 2-3 graders, specifically focusing on early literacy skills that give children the opportunity to talk, read and write every day.
- Provide targeted early literacy support to a minimum of 5-7 children daily in a one-on-one and/or small group setting using lesson plan aimed toward early literacy interventions
- Communicate and interact with students in an age and developmentally appropriate way. Act on constructive feedback provided by Program Director. Build professional relationships and communicate regularly with Program Director and staff, school staff, families, etc.
- Be an ambassador of our program by sharing your success stories with other staff and board members and participating in outreach activities.
- Serve daily in the school setting, adhering to a consistent tutoring schedule
Minimum qualifications:
- Experience as a literacy tutor on either a professional level or personal level
- Demonstrated comfort and ease working with diverse student populations
- An understanding of second and third graders and the ability to inspire lifelong readers
- An unwavering commitment to supporting and leading, creative and sustainable literacy tutoring sessions
- Solid knowledge of children's literature and a desire to expand this knowledge
- A belief that each child possesses the ability to succeed
- Must pass mandatory pre-service background check.
- Speak, read, and write English fluently.
- Strong planning and time-management skills.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
