POSITION: Day Care Teacher
REPORTS TO: Director of Early Childhood Development
STATUS: Full Time (1) / Part Time (2) Hourly

OVERVIEW: Provide quality early childhood education services to the residential children who utilize the childcare facilities in accordance with Coalition for the Homeless policies and State guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of D.C.F., NAEYC, and School Readiness Coalition requirements, Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Required Skills: Early Childhood Education, Positive Reinforcement, Open Communication, Organizing, Planning, Flexibility, Sensitivity, and Nurturing of Children.
  • Knowledge on how to implementing Creative Curriculum and Florida Standard into your lesson plan.
  • Knowledge on using Teaching Strategy GOLD Assessment for assessments on the children.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Teaching

  • Educate and guide children in developmentally appropriate lesson plans allowing them to explore and create their own projects.
  • Include multi-culture activities in lesson plans.
  • Model and explain positive reinforcement and discipline principles in which includes redirection.
  • Prepare children for entrance into the VPK Program.
  • Follow & Create developmentally appropriate lesson plans in which include but not limited to Language Arts, Art & Creativity, Sensory, Music, Science, Math, Physical Education, Dramatic Play, Positive Self Esteem, and Self Awareness.
  • Allow children to explore their learning centers.
  • Maintain Positive Classroom Management
  • Attend All Staff Meetings.
  • Attend Workshops/Classes to obtain 10 Hours State Mandated In-Service Hours.
  • Follow the Classroom Daily Schedule.

Interaction

  • Greet all Parents, Children and Visitors in the Center.
  • Establish positive relationship with the children and parents.
  • Have open communication with the parents and keep them informed of their child’s progress.
  • Always have something positive to share daily with the Parents.
  • Maintain and complete the children’s Daily Reports to be given to Parents at the end of the day.
  • Talk to the children in a positive tone at their level. Play and Attend to the child’s needs.

Health and Safety

  • Maintain and Follow all of Florida’s Department of Children’s and Families, Florida Health Department, and Fire Safety Mandates and Laws at all times.
  • Report all issues/accidents immediately to the Director.
  • Report all broken and/or faulty equipment immediately to the Director.
  • Enforce and Model to the Children proper hand washing.
  • Inspect the playground daily before using it for safety issues: Ant beds, wasp nests, broken toys, trash, standing water, etc. Issues must be reported immediately to Director.
  • Children must be clean at all times such as: noses wiped properly, Faces and hands cleaned throughout the day, and diapers changed frequently.
  • Changing Tables are disinfected after each use.
  • Gloves are to be worn and changed after each child.
  • Keep all children’s bedding and clothes separated.

Housekeeping/Facility Maintenance

  • Disinfect toys and tables daily.
  • Prepare and use fresh bleach water solution daily.
  • Wash bedding twice weekly or more often if needed.
  • Wipe shelves weekly.
  • Keep toys organized and stocked in learning centers.
  • Notify Director ahead of time for supplies needed.
  • Floors are to be swept and mopped daily.
  • Bathrooms are to be cleaned and disinfected daily.
  • Bathrooms are to always be supplied with toilet paper.
  • All sinks must have hand soap and paper towels and trash is emptied daily.

Scheduling

  • The scheduling is done with the needs of the Center.
  • Flexibility with scheduling. No set schedule.
  • Flexibility in teaching at both centers is a must. Notify Director 2 weeks ahead for scheduled appointments.
  • Notify Director immediately if arriving late for work or if ill so the Center will be properly staffed for ratios.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
