Ambulance Dispatcher
General Description:
- Receives calls from private citizens, law enforcement officers and medical facilities requesting ambulance transport.
- Dispatches accurate and rapid processing of routine and emergency calls, which requires following prescribed standard operating procedures.
- Requires the ability to quickly determine the nature of the emergency from information provided by emergency personnel or the public and initiate appropriate action.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate professionally with all customers, internal and external.
Essential Job Functions:
- Receives telephone calls and written requests for service from private citizens , law enforcement, field crews, and medical facilities. Must be able to screen the call and initiate appropriate action per established protocols..
- Perform data entry processes with high level of accuracy and moderate speed.
- Exercise solid spatial reason skills and concepts- can determine accurate time to distance ratios ( How long it may take a vehicle to travel from Point A to Point B)
- Able to perform work in a fast paced, high call volume, call center environment.
- Operates communications and associated peripheral equipment to dispatch units and enter call records into the computer aided dispatch system (CAD).
- Maintains required files, records, and accurate communication logs of pertinent transmissions of incoming and outgoing calls.
- Takes complaints, reports issues to on-duty supervisor and documents as required.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED, minimum education required
- FL Driver's License or Identification
- Must possess multitasking skills, initiative, and a desire to help others, and be able to function as a team member.
- Ability to operate a computer and utilize the related software programs with a solid level of proficiency.
- Ability to maintain clear, accurate, and detailed accounts of operations.
- Ability to remain calm, clear and focused able to make sound decisions during stressful situations.
- Ability to learn to operate radio and telephone transmitting and receiving equipment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; able to listen and understand directions being given in both oral and written formats.
- Ability to maintain flexibility and adaptability when performing tasks and duties in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in the EMS field or past 911 call center experience preferred
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred
- Experience working in a fast paced, high call volume dispatching/call-taking facility environment
- Knowledge of county geography; adjoining counties.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $17.00 - $18.75 per hour
